What is birdie?

Birdie is an online childcare booking service that aims to eliminate the time and stress of finding a great sitter!

How do you screen the sitters?

The sitters are selected by parents, for parents.  The sitters submit information to our website just as they would apply to any job.  We collect their information and ensure they have the appropriate personality and qualifications through interviews.  We require all Birdie sitters to have Child CPR/Choking training, a minimum of 1 year of childcare experience and a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.

How do I book a sitter?

Until the app is up and running, simply click 'FIND ME A SITTER' on this page and enter the date and time you need a Birdie Break (after signing up for a profile). A Birdie representative will then contact you via email with a sitter available for your requested time for you to review.

A calendar is provided through the app.  Enter the date plus the start and end-time and the app will generate a list of available sitters. Enjoy peace of mind knowing all the sitters shown to you, are indeed available for your date and time selected.

How quickly can I find a sitter?

24 hours and 5 minutes before you need to head out the door.  5 minutes to sign up + 24 hours to allow the sitters to accept the position, get prepared and travel to your home.

Can I book my favourite sitter directly?

As per our terms and conditions, Birdie sitters must be directly booked through our app.

Can I meet my sitter beforehand?

You will be sent a detailed profile of the available sitters which includes a write up about themselves, a, photo and more details but most sitters are happy to do a meet and greet beforehand. Please note, the 2 hour minimum booking length applies to meet and greets as well.

How far in advance can I book?

Up to two months in advance. We want to ensure accurate availability of the sitters.

Is there a minimum booking length?

Booking requests must be at least 2 hours.

How do I communicate with my sitter?

Currently a Birdie representative is available as the go-between our sitters and parents but we are happy to pass along a sitter’s number once the booking is confirmed. Once the app is live, parents and sitters will be able to communicate via messages through the app.

Can I find the same sitter again?

Absolutely! Please include your preference in the notes section of the request!

What about transportation?

The sitter provides his or her own transportation.

How much does a Birdie Break cost?

Sitters set their own hourly rates. Being able to offer options to everyone is important to us; we want to meet you in your comfort zone.

We aim to be as flexible and transparent as possible.  The rate you see for the sitters is the sitter’s hourly rate + a 25% fee. Current Birdie rates in Alberta range from $17/hr to $25/hr.

How do I pay?

Payment is made via an emailed invoice to the parent after the booking is complete. Simply click 'pay now' and pay securely through our third party provider. Simple and easy. 

How many children can one sitter look after at a time?

Our sitters will care for up to 4 children. Looking after more children will require booking a second sitter.

What happens if my sitter doesn't arrive?

On the rare occasion that your sitter doesn’t show up, please contact us via email and we will find you a great available sitter ASAP.

What happens if I get back sooner than what I had booked?

You only pay for the time the sitter is needed.

Can I cancel a booking?

Yes, absolutely. If you cancel within 24 hours of the booking, we do charge a $25 cancellation fee that goes to the sitter for their time commitment.
